    Champlain canal, NY.

Re: Champlain canal, NY. Thanks to all that replied. Made it up to the canal Sunday 10/21. Launched at Coeyman's, headed north ~18 miles to Troy, thru the Federal lock, then up thru state locks 1 and 2. Lot of debris in the water all the way up, logs, trees, etc... Wasn't impressed by the...

    Champlain canal, NY.

Anyone boat the Champlain canal? Never been, but want to give it a try. If we have a good Saturday or Sunday in early Oct, thinking of spending a day up there, just to say we did it... If not Oct, maybe in the spring. Only plan on heading up thru 3 or 4 locks. I have a 2.5 hr drive to get...

    Henry Hudson Park, Bethlehem, NY

Anyone familiar with the Hudson river launch/docks and parking at Henry Hudson Park, Bethlehem, NY. http://www.townofbethlehem.org/pages/parkHH/parkHenryHudsonBoatFish.asp I've used the ramp in Albany, off of Colonie, but the parking is tough, and the floating docks are awkward, with no way to...

    F150 trim tab

On the CT River today, went thru what I'll call a debris field. Lots of small wood/branches. Wasn't going fast , maybe 6 mph. Heard a few clunks, wasn't to concerned. Once back on the trailer, I noticed some wood, stuck in what looks like a vent in the front of the zink trim tab on the...

    vhf vs depth finder

19' Alumacraft Trophy. Console space is tight. I want to mount a vhf, but if I mount it where I want, it will only be a few inches from the depthfinder. If I mount the antenna on the opposite gunwale, it will be 7' from the depthfinder. Will I still have interference. Is it more important...

    2007 Tahoe milage

Looking at a 2007 Tahoe, 5.3 .373. What can I realistically expect for gas mileage. I tow about 4000lbs on a tandem trailer. Currently have a Trailblazer, 4.0 .342. Getting maybe 20 highway (with a tailwind), 17 around town, and around 12 towing. Will I be close? Thanks in advance, Gary

Going to hit the Hudson Friday morning for a few hours. Anyone familiar with the ramp at the Erastus Corning Riverfront Preserve. Plan on fishing from there north to Troy. My kid is at RPI in Troy, and want to take her and her friends for a boat ride after fishing... How's the ramp? How's...

    onboard charger status lights

Do you guys rely on the onboard charger status lights, to monitor charging. Mounting a Guest 2631 (3 bank) onboard charger under my passenger console. Plenty of room, and access to route wires to the battery compartments. But will need to lay on floor with my head under the console to see the...

    VHF handheld decision

I tend to overthink these things, but help me out here. For inland lakes (big to me is Champlain), and rivers, CT, Thames, Hudson, etc. Looking for a VHF handheld. I've been to the stores, handled a lot of them, listened to all I could (WX) Think I've decided on ICOM. M34 - about $150 - 5...

    towing capacity vs hitch capacity

2004 Trailblazer, I6, 3.42 gears, rated at 5100lbs. but the label on hitch says 400lb tongue/4000lb limit. Why the difference? New boat/motor/trailer, wet with gear right around 4000lbs. Am I safe? Will probably be getting a new vehicle this year or next, but really need this one to work for...
