    Meant to follow up earlier, but I wanted to run the boat a bit to make sure. It turned out to be the fuel pump. No more bogging and the plug looks normal. I'm guessing it was just enough to cause a lean condition in the bottom cylinder. Thanks for all the advice!

    It'll still spin while engaged. Mine got stuck in the flywheel and I thought I needed a new starter until I realized the positive terminal on the battery was just slightly loose. Make sure all power connections are solid - it needs a lot of current.

    Definitely fully seated on both ends, but I'll try swapping wires or testing the resistance.

    1994 Merc 75hp 2 stroke, 3-cyl. I've been having issues with surging at mid-throttle and discovered the bottom plug appeared half-burned. What would cause this? I decarbed the engine, put new plugs in, and it did the same thing to the new plugs after a quick outing.

    Alright I'll give that a try. I did a visual inspection of a couple of the lines when I replaced the inline fuel filter and they appeared okay inside, but I'll check the carb drain.

    Prop damage threshold

    Thanks everyone for the input. I think I'll just buy a new prop and before installing it, use it to make some kind of template/jig to measure blade deflection for the next time it happens (which is inevitable in the lower James River).

    Considering I'm running an old 75hp 2-stroke 3cyl Merc, I'm afraid I wouldn't feel any prop vibrations lol. The weight balance would be fine, but a bent blade would still cause an uneven load while rotating I imagine... I like to overthink things especially when it comes to my beloved boat!
