So finally today was able to start the motor (see long no spark thread by me :D)...
Got the control box all back together according to the service manual. The motor starts and idles like a champ but will not engage into gear. When I put the control in forward or reverse literally nothing...
I acquired this motor after it had been sitting for approx 15 years. By the looks of things it is safe to assume it was not winterized properly...
So after checking compression, changing impeller, and gear lube I tried to fire it yesterday....no go.
I am brand new to points style ignition...
I was given the boat for free and it was not properly winterized 15 years ago...so the gear lube has turned into basically a muddy mess.
Anybody have any good suggestions? Is there something I can soak it with? I was gonna try brake cleaner but not sure if that's too harsh :confused:
Is it possible to convert this outboard to power tilt/trim? If so, is there a kit or would I just need to gather parts (motor, solenoid, etc) and fab something up to work?
I tried searching (not very hard because I'm out of patience today) so please don't shoot me :D
