I am putting my steering cable back on and wanted to know if there is a measurement for setting it. It is on a old v-8 setup with power steering. When I think I have it set right and turn full right the power steering rod fully extends and stops leaving a little room form shift lever to...
I went to mount my gimbal housing today and had trouble with the gasket sliding in. I checked my thickness and it varies from 2" to 1 7/8" I can fix this part easily by adding glass to the inside of transom right. How far out do I have to maintain the 2". Do I go as far as the transom plate...
I am trying to mount the the gimbal housing to the transom. It uses a cork gasket not rubber. I have had this thing on and off 5 times but the top of the gasket will not stay in place. When I go to tighten it up it wants to slide in. I glued it to the housing but still moved. Any one ever...

I also need a new shift cable and they don't sell one that bolts in from the front. Can I use a alpha cable the bolts in from the aft. Are the lengths the same or don't matter. one last question Does anyone know what...
I was getting ready to tab my floor in and noticed the window hits when you close it. I have the cap screwed down and all the screws went back into the holes where they came out. The bow tub section is about a half inch off the floor. It sat on a piece of 3/4 board originally but if I pick it...

I have been looking for several hours trying to figure out what out drive I have. The boat is a 1974 but I don't know if the drive has been changed at some point. I do not see any serial numbers at the decal location. It is a mercruiser outdrive and I have the big chunks apart so if I can...
I was cleaning the transom and noticed two cracks at the bottom of the outdrive hole. They are about 2 inches long. I put a yellow dot showing how far they go out. What would be the best way to repair them.
Re: Having second thoughts.
Thought I would post some pics of what I am working on. It should not cost me some much to fix up but I let it sit in my back yard unused for 8 years. This led to water getting into the engine. The engine ran great before I parked it. So the engine repair I only...
Well I have my 1974 tri-hull tore apart. Transom, floor and stringers and cap are out. After reading tons of post about what I need to do and what products I will need I am not sure this boat is worth repairing. The transom and stringers and floor I figure will cost me 1000.00 to 1200.00 to...
Re: replacing stringers and transom
Hope the pictures went through. The last three show how the stringer was sitting up off the hull. I cut some of it down and see a line in the hull. Do I need to cut this all off and make smooth or put my new stringer on top?
