Hey guys sorry it’s been a minute since I’ve got back to this. I didn’t do a leak down test but decided to just run it in the drive way.
Starts up fine and doesn’t run any rougher than it did before (characteristics of an inline 4 maybe?).
Sounds perfect at idle and responds immediately...
Alright. Sorry it’s been a minute to retest. Bought a new compression tester and here are the results…
#1 - 150 psi
#2 - 90 psi
#3 - 145 psi
#4 - 150 psi
Did a wet test on #2 and minimal change. Slightly over 90.
Could it be the valves for #2?
If I had a blown head gasket I would have...
I rented the auto zone special, might just go buy one for $40. It’s definitely putting out something because the bit of fuel that was in there did spray out.

Disconnected fuel line from carb
Removed all spark plugs
Placed in WOT

I did bump the key when I got
Home, fuel off, and it turns over easy, so it’s not seized. I have already written the flapper and boots as toast considering I can pull the pieces out the exhaust bellow.
No warning horn and I just replaced the impeller 2 months ago. It’s ran fine each time out until now… when the water intake hose disconnected… as stated
Hey Guys. Took the boat out. Had it idling for maybe 10 mins and took off on a plane for about 90 seconds. Motor started loosing power, noticed smoke from the engine bay and shut it off. Smoke was coming from the rubber that connects the exhaust riser to the pipe going to the transom.

This was the answer. Thank you!! Issue obviously occurred when I split the lower off. Messed with it today and 30 mins later now it’s shifting smoother than an oil slick.
Need some help. Having issues with shifting into F N or R when outdrive is installed. Pulled the outdrive off and the lower shift shaft does not seem to rotate the same direction as the shift lever shaft (?). Standing over the outdrive facing the bow the positions engages as follows -

Update - yanked the old motor out this weekend, checked dip stick for fun after it was out and on the ground and guess what… oil is now showing (or chocolate milk 🤔) …still can’t explain its disappearance 🤷♂️. Oh well.. tear down and rebuild is in its future and I’ll have a spare motor… or at...
