Is my gimbal bearing sealed or greaseable

Thank you, both. Not wanting to create more problems than I have right now, I'm not inclined to pull & replace it yet. So I guess I'll do as Scott06 suggested and run it until and unless it starts complaining. Really appreciate the inputs!

Is my gimbal bearing sealed or greaseable

After 3 pumps with new grease I was able to see it squeezing-out from between the bearing and tolerance ring. It didn't get harder to pump. I also couldn't find any of the new grease behind the bearing, in the gap in front of the grease seal. What would this tell you?

Is my gimbal bearing sealed or greaseable

Thanks, Scott06 and Alldodge. So a greaseable bearing installed incorrectly. Not what I was hoping to hear! I have been running this bearing about 20 hours every season since 2020. And giving it 3-5 pumps through the zerk every year. I wonder if it could have been getting some grease in the...

Is my gimbal bearing sealed or greaseable

Hi All, Based on the photo, is anyone able to tell whether this is a sealed or greaseable gimbal bearing? To be clear, I have no issues with my boat. The bearing looks and feels perfectly smooth and well lubricated and makes no noise when underway. But I would like to know if it is a sealed or...

3.0L Raw Water Intake & Drain Port Questions

Yeah, I'm feeling more confident about doing that now 👍. I did figure out that I'll need an additional bushing after I remove the plastic "T" from the manifold drain. (Mercury p/n 22-862557). All good.

3.0L Raw Water Intake & Drain Port Questions

Thanks. Yes, an air "admittance" vent is my best guess, too. But as I remove my sterndrive at the end of every season and also disconnect the raw water intake at the HE, that hose has all the opportunity it needs to drain from both ends without the additional vent. The installation instructions...

3.0L Raw Water Intake & Drain Port Questions

Thanks, Scott. Helpful detail. I did understand the principles of both systems, I just couldn't reconcile those principles with what I thought I was seeing in my boat. Turns out I completely misremembered the set-up and it wasn't until I could get into it today that I resolved most of my...

3.0L Raw Water Intake & Drain Port Questions

Hi All, Mercruiser 3.0L (1A311803); Aftermarket closed cooling half-system; A1G2 drive. I'm trying to simplify my current hoses, routings and drain process, mainly because the PO who installed the aftermarket closed cooling system left some of the superfluous OEM fittings in place. (I've read...

Very cool. Thanks for those links, Fun. (y) So definitely a structural brace, then. I'll find one to install. Maybe I'll notice a reduction in vibration when I do... 🤷‍♂️ Rob

Hi All, Quick intro: Former sailor and current owner of a 2008 20ft Bayliner I/O cuddy, a Mercruiser 3.0L TKS motor (s/n 1A311803) with a closed cooling half-system and an Alpha One Gen II sterndrive.
