    short shaft, long shaft?

    i have a 55 hp long shaft and a 40 hp short shaft the 55 needs some work what would be the pitfalls to useing the short shaft in the meantime?

    same problem i hear over and over here starts only goes forward so i took off the lower unit and the wavy washer and the shift solenoid are pretty rusty i was wondering if anyone know where i could get replacements i think the solenoids cleaned up pretty good but the washer is completly eaten...
