I have a 1967 Mercruiser 120hp 2.5l 153cu that is backfiring through the carb between 2000-2400 rpms. Prior to it being torn apart and pressure tested, it ran perfect. The reason for testing it was due to water in the oil. That problem has been solved. However, not sure what to do...

Is it ok to test a lower unit/outdrive with muffs and at the same time submerge it in a water tank? I believe this will allow me to rev my engine and at the same time create enough resistance on the prop to keep the motor from over reving.

Upon reassemlby of my manifold and riser, I noticed a hole through the internal wall of the riser/elbow. The hole is closest to the manifold connection and not the exhaust bellow. I suspect this maybe the culprit to my milky oil.
If not, can this riser/elbow still be used or should...
