From what I can see the shift rod bushing sits on the E clip to prevent the shaft from pulling out. It would be necessary to remove the bushing to replace the E clip. Would like to remove the bushing without damage. I dont have any special tools. Any suggestions.
Thanks for all your interest guys.
I stand corrected on the oil warning system causing SLOW. Thanks for that info. I have the boat back now and have removed the Thermostat /Vernitherm set up. A small amount of weed type contamination but not much. Tested the Vernitherm in hot water and it...
Thanks for the responses.
The impeller and cooling are fine. Grounding the tan wire may do it.
Just need to fool the power pack that the oil tank is full and the oil is flowing through the VRO. The schematics in my manual are not clear and the workings of the VRO 2 system is not there..
This motor went into SLOW after a short run. The LED and horn system does not work on the boat.
The VRO was leaking and therefore suspect. Changed the VRO for the standard fuel pump and running 50:1. Temperatures are good. The motor now runs for a much shorter time before the SLOW kicks in...
This motor has been running well enough all these years. According to the owner it has suffered with fuel in the oil even from new. I have heard of other similar model Mercury motors having the same issue. Mercury told the owner that this is normal. I doubt this is correct.
Does anyone have any...
Thanks for your response pvanv. After a lot of research I have come to the conclusion that parts are most likely extinct. Trying to save this motor is an exercise in futility.
Many Thanks.
Have an old motor that has recently stopped running, just died. Compressions show 105 and 115. Sparks are strong but notice that they miss every once in a while. Carb is new. Shooting fuel into the carb throat resulted in one loud pop but nothing more. Suspect trigger or CD unit. Cannot find...
Motor would not start. The VST and fuel pump all gummed up. Everything clean now and the HP pump is running again.. Is it possible that the pressure regulator is also gummed up?
No response necessary. The pump power comes direct from the ECU. No protection from what I gather. If this is the case this is crap from Mercury.
The voltage shows for a short time only when the ignition is turned on. When the motor is cranked over the voltage is there solid.
Perhaps I haven't found the relay. Found what looks like a connector on the end of a harness. Has the wire colors for the pump but a continuity test shows something else connected. I sure need help on this one.
OK found the relay but can't test it without a schematic for it. Does anyone have a schematic? Still need to know if there is a fuse involved. Have not found one so far.
Good sparks. Lift pump working , no volts at the high pressure pump connector.
should I look for a fuse, a relay or is this the ECM. Dont have a manual for this.
Thanks. Jim.
