    OMS help needed

At this point, I'm totally confused. Went out today, hooked up the vro tank and my pre-mix tank, opened the cap on the oil tank and started it. Got tons of smoke beyond what I saw yesterday. Unhooked the oil line, put my clear tube on, and started it. At first it pushed oil 3ish inches back...

I don't hear anything like that at shutdown, nor do I hear a click every 30-45 seconds, though there is sometimes one 30-45 seconds after shutdown. Is it possible to check the bearings without tearing it down?

Also, it looks like rebuild kits are still available, 2 part numbers needed. Ate both needed and I assume they contain the diaphram you mentioned?

My understanding is/was the VRO changed to OMS around '93, maybe this model didnt. Agree on the alarm. I checked and I get a regular alarm check when I turn the key on. I'll try it with the oil tank open, but would that be similar to the open ended tube?

Compression test engine warm, shut off ~30 minutes ago, heads about 110-115deg, all plugs out, cranking for 2x 3 second bursts with the starter per cylinder. This was with my 15+ year old Harbor Freight gauge, so... 121, 122, 120, 118 so compression at least looks equal. I did notice 3-4" of...

1994 Johnson 120 TLERC Noticed my engine seemed to be clicking loudly at idle on the water and I think shook a bit more at low rpm than normal and maybe a bit sluggish. I never got an alarm. Brought in home and started it on the hose, noticed no smoke, and shut it down.Began reading that the...

    '94 Johnson 120 hard miss

Interesting side note that probably means nothing. Noticed that the new power pack doesn't have the brass spacers in the bolt holes that the original had. When I put the ground wire on, I put it under the same nut and im not convinced it tightens against the housing. I would assume there is...

    '94 Johnson 120 hard miss

VRO is still on it. Most places I look list the QL78YC for this motor, including BRP parts, but just noticed the Clymer I have on the shelf lists the QL77JC4.

    '94 Johnson 120 hard miss

Currently has a set of QL78YC's with maybe 5 hours on them. I installed new plugs with the first power pack.

    '94 Johnson 120 hard miss

I did connect a timing gun to each lead to confirm spark, but only at idle. If I can get this thing in a barrel of some form to keep enough water for the cooling system, is it safe to take the prop off and wind it up to that speed for a moment unloaded?

    '94 Johnson 120 hard miss

Replaced the Power Pack and plug wires over the winter and finally got it out for a run today. At 3500-3800 roughly, there seems to be a hard miss. I can back the throttle down just below it and it ran perfect up to 3500 and cruised a couple miles. Throttling up, As it started to push over in...

Looks like a BA2A carb, so 73 or later kit should work?

After 20 years, I've decided to dig this motor out and try to get it running. This is a frankenmotor my Dad put together somewhere between 1975 and 1980 and my brother and I ran the prop off it as kids on an old 14' jon boat. The motor was running when shut down and stored 30ish years ago in a...
