While working on the lower unit I would like to clean up / fix up a few things that are concerning me.
Primary on the list of concerns is the steering arm.
I know the powerhead must be removed, and I know the 6 midsection to powerhead bolts are the worst. I have managed to remove 5 out of 6...

Trying to get some more life out of my old girl, and reverse has started acting up. It's kicking out of gear when set into reverse, from everything I've read it indicates the clutch teeth and the reverse dogs are probably worn.

I have a 175AETO, which I believe is pretty similar to a 175ETLK from 1985...
I have an older mid 80's Yamaha 175 that is being pretty strange about going into reverse. It is a 175AETO, but I believe it is the equivalent of an 175ETXK (175hp 20" shaft)
When cold, or after idling for a while, it won't go into reverse, it just grinds. If you take the cable off, it will pop...
Hi everyone, I recently purchased a 20' Mako with a Yamaha 175AETO (at least that's what it says on the bracket tag) with a serial number starting with 6G5.
The motor cowling appears to be off of a 200, but based on the model tag it's obviously a 175 I imagine.
Motor runs fine, shift shaft...
