''97 Mercruiser Alpha II gen+
My gear lube hose is leaking at the back of the gimbal so I'm in the process of pulling the gimbal off. Just want to make sure I'm not goobering something up, but I'm assuming I have to remove the shift cable to get the gimbal off, then pull the bellow off and go...
So I replaced my engine with a reman last year. It runs great but was running hot with the thermostat in place. Out of frustration I ran it without the thermostat. It ran up to temperature and I kept an eye on the condition of the oil for gunning up and such, no issues there. To recap, I've...
Still getting hot on the water or on the hose. Here's what I've done so far.
Checked the thermostat in pot of water- checked ok
Pulled the lower unit to check impeller- ok
Water pipe connected in lower unit- check
Thermostat housing not clogged
Manifolds and risers are new and are not clogged

Second trip on the reman motor- running well, breaking in well. Seems to get stronger the longer I run it. 2 problems, both on the starboard side.
1- small oil leak coming from somewhere, drip off the bottom of the exhaust manifold.
2- same manifold is always hotter than the port side. Temp...
Okay so I've got my "new" reman motor in. Made the swap myself with some help from a friend and learned a LOT.
It is a mercruiser 4.3 alpha 1 gen+. Also changed the impeller. I ran the motor on the hose for a while yesterday and the temp was up. Got it out on the water today, motor is running...
I took part the Outdrive to change the impeller. Had all back together but had to take it apart again (forgot to shift into forward). Got that starightened out but noticed I had blue lube leaking down from where the drive shaft of the lower unit should go. Will that seal up when I put it all...
Okay so about to remove the motor. Should I remove the bolts into the block and leave the motor mount bolts alone? Would that help with aligning the new motor?
About to order a reman motor from Rapido. Have seen more positive reviews than negative, just gonna hope for the best. But wanted to run this all past you guys, please look for red flags. Long story short is that Ithought I had a cracked block. In dismantling the motor I'm not seeing any cracks...
Looks like I'm gonna be replacing a motor shortly. What would be on the list of things to check closely and/or go ahead and replace while the motor is out?
Drive coupler
bilge pump/float switch
Looking for mercruiser exhaust manifolds. Would like the one piece model for 1997 4.3. (Part number 807294)
In the event I have to convert to the 2 piece model, will they be the same height once installed as the 1 piece version?
Ok so long story short--
Did an oil change and ran then found water in my oil and everything told me it just couldn't be a cracked block, maybe head gasket. I started tearing down the motor and discovered that both flappers in the exhaust are GONE. Nothing but the pivot rod left.
How likely is...
IF THIS IS IN THE WRONG SECTION PLEASE MOVE, but please help.
I bought a used boat the foirst of the year. I've been getting service work done, working on cosmetic stuff, etc. So im down to changing the oil and have everything empty. Now the oil filter WILL NOT TURN. Yes im turning it the...
