Thanks to all for the replies/suggestions. I wasn't trying to cut any corners due to money, I just didn't know any better about just using epoxy. I sure learned my lesson!
I think I will go ahead and tackle the deck. Any instructions on what kind of foam to use and where to get it, what...
I have not had a chance to see where the rot started. I did not use fiberglass with the epoxy :( That sounds like my mistake based on what you are saying. Maybe I should have laid down some 1708 and then coated it with epoxy? If I remember correctly, I used 5200 especially below the...
I guess you can call it exposed. I did not have a cover on it. I went to great lenths (obviously not enough) to make sure the transom was sealed. I never figured that it would rot sitting in the yard!
All that work down the drain and I still have to put a deck in it :(
I replaced the transom 5 years ago. The boat has been sitting outside since then waiting for a deck. I went out the other day and noticed the transom is mush!!! Motor is barely hanging off the back. I used exterior plywood (not pressure treated) and coated with 2 coats of 3 to 1 epoxy resin...
I bought an older Aquasport (for the boat itself) with the understanding that the motor did not run well last time out, but ran great prior to that. Previous owner did state that the boat had sat for several years and assumed that the carbs had water in them (which they did). Good thing is I...
Decided to finally tackle the deck. I did the transom about a year ago. Anyone know how many sheets of plywood for just the deck? I was visually thinking 3? Also, I have posted a picture of the factory foam that was left that I could salvage. What should I use to replace this? I just was...
I have a late 70's SS with a 50 hp Johnson. The prop that came on it is in bad shape. I can't locate any numbers to tell me what size it is. Could someone suggest the right prop for my setup? My tach is not functional which I am working on. I can say at WOT with 2 adults my max speed is...
I am getting ready to install another fishfinder in my 16 SS. Has anyone found a good location for the transducer? Mine was located on the port side and never read well. Any pictures anyone has of their transducer location that works well would be greatly appreciated. Here is where mine was...
The one thing my 1975 SS 16 is missing are the rear doors back at the transom area. Were these sliding doors? I assume that there was some sort of track on the deck? I am sure finding the original doors are near about impossible, but could someone tell me the dimensions of the doors so I...
I just inherited this boat from my dad. He was going to send it to an auction because he didn't use it anymore. I love the way the little boat rides so I took it off his hands. He has replaced the deck and put in new carpet and that is as far as he got. The motor runs great and most recently has...
Just purchased a boat with this motor on it. Don't know much about these engines. Just looking for some pointers as far as maintenance goes. What kind of fuel stabilizer should I use? Need to find a manual for starters but just wanted some advice on how to care for this engine. Thanks.
Motor is running warm /almost hot between 1500 to 2000 rpm's. It is cool at idle and fine running WOT. Once I come down from WOT is when the temp starts to rise. Water pump and t-stats have been replaced within the last year. I have had this problem for many seasons but have yet to figure it...
I have a pretty good idea how to do this based on reading other posts. My only concern is supporting the engine considering that I will be doing it at my house without a hoist. Just wanted to see if anyone could give me some pointers and some simple instructions.
Can the trim motor be...
I have a 1992 Mercury Offshore 200hp. Tilt and trim were working fine around 1 month ago. Worked just a little today as if the batteries were low(which they were a little) so I put a charge on the batteries and now it just clicks. I have a brand new battery and when I try to raise or lower it...
There is an arm that attaches to the end of the steering cable that attaches to the arm that steers the motor. I have way too much play where thay connect and it looks loose. Appears to be a bolt that joins them together. Does that have a nut that tightens them up, or is it some kind of bushing?
