Can someone tell me where/how to buy a dozen or more of the fiber washers that are used at the dipstick and drain plugs on my Aquamatic 250? It looks like they're $3 apiece plus shipping on the sites I can find?
New to Merc. Mine is a 1973 140 with a Mercruiser outdrive. She sat for many years but after a total fuel system overhaul she runs fine...but would overheat if I kept her running for long.
I bought a new water pump - the impeller was toast.
While I'm waiting for my shop manual, I thought I'd...
I just discovered papers hidden away in a 40 year old boat I brought home. It's powered by a Mercruiser 140. Tucked away in the owners manual, there was a bulletin that said, "Do not use unleaded gasoline in this motor!"
Was an additive ever recommended by Mercruiser to allow the use of...
I just drug a little houseboat home to SC from Michigan. She appears to be in well maintained shape, but there's a hose missing - presumably from when she was winterized 15 years ago. I know I could do a search, but someone here I'm sure can tell me quickly what hose I need and which engine...
Thanks to y'all we're enjoying a family vacation on Lake Powell after towing Big Duck 2,000 miles from SC to Utah. So far the 260A has been flawless and the Aquamatic is also doing nicely. We've been getting 2mpg at 6.5 mph.
There's a shift cable that runs from the outdrive thru the transom that connects to the Teleflex cable that goes to the shifter. Is this a standard VP part? If so what's the part number? My computer crashed and all I have to work with is my phone...supposed to tow the boat to Lake Powell in 2...
I'm allowed to put a 40 gallon plastic tank in my engine room, but not a 1/2 pint see thru bowl?

I've got an EVO View (Android). While surfing on this forum my screen jumps around like a mad rabbit. Are there any apps that will prevent iboats from being a jerk?
NOTE: This thread was started by moving this post and a couple following from THIS THREAD to here.

OK - I've learned that an electronic ignition can run a coil that requires ballast even without the ballast - and that makes sense. But doesn't my original statement still hold - a coil...
Re: Best Way To Cold Start
Thanks for all the tips/hints on cold starting. I'm sure one of them will be magic.
As for a fast idle, if one was called for, I was thinking of a small piece that would slip in to keep the throttle from closing all the way. Not a pencil of course, but something...
I've got a 260A w/ Rochester carb using a mechanical (manifold heat) choke. She lights right up when warm (using #1) and has no trouble idling/running without additional throttle even when cold, but I haven't found the magic method for a cold start.
1) Don't touch nothin' - just crank her with...
AQ260A - idles nice and smooth, even at 600 while setting the timing. However if I'm up on the throttle and close her quickly, sometimes she'll drop to 450 or even die. Suppose I could put in a dashpot - is there anything else to try first?
