What causes a motor to sneeze and die. I have heard it is a lean condition but how do I fix it? Iv played with the low speed adjustment screw and can't get it to stop doing it. Only happens at idle or low speeds.

So during my last fishing expedition my 1977 35hp evinrude ob started to act crazy. first it took ALOT longer than usual to get her to start (15-20 turns in stead of 2-4)then while letting it warm up, it would (sneeze?) and die. then while i was running it at roughly 1/4 throttle it would start...
ok... i replaced all the cables, throttle, steering, and shift on my 1977 35hp evinrude OB and lost the little tube (threaded on both ends) that holds type 400 cables to the motor or control box. the piece that you tighten one screw to crimp the cable end and tighten the other to hold the cable...
I'm looking for a gasket that goes between the lower unit and the exhaust housing. it is leaking slightly and wanted to stop it. how big of a deal is it to replace this?
if i cant find the gasket can i make one from gasket paper?
black rubber or cork?

any tips or tricks to finding a pesky leak in a 16 ft jon boat. dont really want to pull the decks to fill her with water. im sure it is a rivet or seam leak but i cant find it to save my life.:confused:
