    Temp reading issue

We just got back from some time on the water and the 4 days we used the boat my temp never registered over 100 degrees. When it first happened, I checked everything at idle to make sure the t-stat was working. Now that we're home, I've had the chance to pull things apart. I have a '95 350 Mag...

    383 dyno success!

After dealing with TB V ignition issues in another post, we were able to run the 383 with a new MSD distributor and box today. We ended up with 466 ft/lbs at 4400 rpm and 433 hp at 5500 rpm. The lowest torque reading was 423 ft/lbs at 2900 rpm. Needless to say I am happy with the results...

    Engine sitting on dyno-ignition gremlins!!!

Okay crew, I need your help. As I write this, my engine is sitting idle on a dyno until I can figure things out. My 383 finally went to the dyno today. I'm using AFR 195's, Holley 750, custom marine cam (214/218) and stock Merc Thunderbolt V out of our '95 Baja Islander. Burning 87 octane...

Thru hulls vs thru leg back pressure test

Okay, while my engine is out of my boat I thought about performing a test tied to a sometimes heated topic-performance gains of thru hulls vs thru the drive. I happen to have a left over Auto Meter gauge from a supercharged Mustang I once owned BK (before kids). It shows vacuum and up to 15...

Carb decision time - mech or vacuum

My 383 build is progressing along and now it's time to select a carb. Based on Chris Straub's recommendation, I am going to use a 750 cfm carb. My combination consists of 195 AFR's, Edel RPM intake, GLM manifolds, thru hulls and a custom roller cam in a '95 Baja Islander. For overall...

    Painting bilge and engine compartment

With the motor out of the boat for improvements, I thought I would spiff up the engine compartment and bilge. I know Interlux makes Bilgekote but I have a fresh gallon of 2 part white Primekote. I bought it for another project that never materialized. Since I've got $70 in the Primekote, can...

    Yet another Iboats cam decision

Ah the joys of choosing the right cam. I've spent hours and hours researching internet cam topics. I've learned about reversion, stock exhausts vs. the expensive stuff, torque power band rpms and the effects of duration, LCA and lift. I am now at the point of dropping my 350 block off at the...

1995 Mercruiser 260 - roller or flat tappet cam?

I have a Merc 260 in a 1995 Baja. I am considering doing some engine upgrades. One upgrade might involve a different marine cam. For my year of motor, would it have a hyd flat tappet or roller cam? Also, if I decide to go the 383 route, it is my understanding that this block uses a one...
