    Difference between 40 50 & 60

    I have a 2003 40hp Mercury 2 stroke 3 cylinder 58.9ci The 50 is listed as same displacement same engine rpm, how does it make 10 more hp. I think the 60 is the same block as well also listed as 5000-5500 rpm
