Can the fuel filter on a Mark 20 be cleaned? Is a replacement available. The original was made by the Moline Filter Co. Should it be replaced? If so, with what?

I am restoring a 1954 Mercury Mark 20. In researching on-line, all of the sites suggest obtaining the original service manual. The only one I found covered a series of models and years and cost over $70. How do I obtain a copy of the original manual for this model at a resonible price?
