Just set the timing at the spec'd 8-BTDC. It was set previously at 8 ATDC.
I lowered the idle back down to 700 and it seems to run smooth in the driveway. It seemed smooth before but would only run about 37 mph (GPS)
at 4200 or 4400rpm and would take forever to get on plane, always had to ease...
Replaced the distributor cap on my 1992 mariah 2350Z with a 5.7L Merc/GM.
The old cap didn't have a hose coming off the vacuum nipple and I can't find where on the carb I would attach it if I was to add one. Are marine engines supposed to have a vacuum advance hose? is that what you call it?
Thanks.
What should I do for a DIY repair. Does this go beyond the 2 part marine puddy?
You can see that it is next to an old repair.
Also, what is the best way to lift and support the port side off the bunk board?
Nobody got hurt thank God.
The engine fired up last night (half submerged).
Whew!

1976 165 HP Merc. Can the exhaust bellows (new) be installed without pulling the drive and buying the $45 spreader tool? Old one was torn so I pulled it off thinking I would just slide a new one on. New one is about 2" shorter and alot stiffer. Guess it's not stretched and softened from use.
So I looked it over and the tilt position and trim limit wires are routed through the transom with a two bolt plate that I can't access without, it seems, removing the drive and bell housing. Any one know of a simple method Im' not thinking of? I've used every wrench and extension and knuckles I...
Trim/Tilt worked fine in the lake. Pulled up on the trailer, turned it off and it took severel minutes for the outdrive to raise enough to get the boat out of the water. Didn't work on land either. Sounds like it works, pump motor sounds normal, no wierd clicks or anything. It lowered back down...
