Last summer we got a new outboard (2 stroke) and oddly it pulls to right hard. What I mean by that is that if you were let go of the handle, the boat would steer to the right, sharply.
The outboard is centered with the boat as it should and I've never had that experience with any other outboard...
Hi,
Due to broken wires where they flex, I've replaced the "stator" (like a PU coil) and and the coil under the flywheel. The guy at the place I bought the parts from (local) had the alignment ring so they're properly aligned but I forgot to ask for the torque spec on the flywheel nut.
Anyone...
Over the last few years this '86 outboard has been problematic. I'm now told that it will sometimes slow down (very intermittant) but eventually recover w/o doing anything.
The guy who told me about this said he was talking to someone about that and the other guy said his outboard was also doing...
This outboard began acting up a couple years ago and although it now seems fixed for the most part, the last time I was at our cabin a few weeks back it acted up for me once (and only once).
What happened was that after using it in shallow water (tilted up in its shallow water position) and...
In another thread here, someone posted this:<br /> "As a sidenote I have the partlist for the 40/50/60 EFI 4Stroke (it's the same partlist for all three) and the only difference is in fact the computer (ECM) and decals.<br />Here is the # for the 60 ECM:<br />89195238T ECM 1 $783.00"<br /><br...
I've got a few '50s Johnson outboards and I'm soon to replace all their lower gearcase seals however it seems as though there's a special tool required to replace the shifter shaft seal (or o-ring).<br /> Is the tool still available somewhere or is there a way to do it w/o the tool?
I know, it's not really a Merc but Merc has their own "4 cycle oil" which isn't exactly cheap at the dealer considering that it seems to be just regular 10W30 petroleum oil. <br /> Is there any good reason why I couldn't use any other good automotive 10W30 engine oil?<br /><br /> Synthetics...
Anyone here replace one? Easy job or somewhat of a bummer?<br /> The throttle's been stiff for a while but it now obviously has a bad cable near the tillers pivot point area.
I've got a nice used '74 Merc 200 (20 HP) and the owners manual that I bought for it from Grubs claims that there's a shollow running position setting somewhere but the drawing in the manual isn't good and no, I don't see anything that'd allow for that anywhere.<br /> It tilts up in forward...
Hi,<br /> I just picked up a Sears Waterwitch that appears to be in good overall condition BUT is missing its spark plug. Anyone here know where I can locate one?<br /> <br /> Anyone know where I can find more info on these anywhere?<br /> Btw, yes I'm a member of AOMCI too but I get more...
Might anyone here know of a source for lower gear case seals for a PO-15? <br /><br /> Another Q, IF I can get mine running, can it run briefly, safely in a test tank being that it has no waterpump or would I risk overheating it? I'd think that I could at least run it for a little while...
I just picked up a '56 Johnson Javelin that has a very odd (too me) problem. Its "steering column" (whatever) is siezed, doesn't swivel to turn the outboard as it should. I've never seen that before. Great for making constant left circles only but that's about it.<br /> Anyone have ideas how I...
Whoever painted the outboard painted right over the 4 dyna float emblems and so I'm trying to remove them but not yet having much luck. I've gone around the screw heads and emblems with an exacto knife yet I've only got one screw removed so far. I'm still unable to get that emblem off.<br />It's...
Bore and stroke for each are the same but the '59 Mk78A has 10 more HP. I assume the only difference is carbs (to add 10 HP to my Mk 75A) but is there more to it than that?
I see them for sale on Ebay occasionally BUT before possibly bidding and probably paying too much (to outbid others), does anyone here know of any sources elsewhere where these tools can still be purchased new and reasonably?<br />I have a few old Mercs that need their gear cases re-sealed so I...
