    Are my reed valves bad?

Hello, I have a set of used boyesen reed valves for an evinrude v-4. I have been told to check them for any light passing through to determine if they are ok. When I hold them up to a bright light, a couple of them let just a sliver of light through, like less than the thickness of a playing...

Advantage of aluminum to SS propellers

Hello. Can someone help me with a question I have? I have heard that SS props are better because they dont flex, but they are considerablly heavier. Does the nonflexing aspect 'outweigh' (ha ha ) the weight factor? And is the weight a factor? thanks..

Tech. question about 72 Evinrude 125 timing

Hello, I have a question about my 72 125 Evinrude. After finding that my PULSE pack was bad, I converted the ignition to the points type from a '69 85hp motor I have. I switched the whole ignition system, even the alternator. It runs great, but I am wondering about something. On the stock 125's...

    Making a starter pull string

Hello, I have a '72 Evinrude 125 and want to make a pull string which wraps around the flywheel in its spool for emergency starting if the starter goes out. Can anyone suggest if it is better to use a strong rope, or cable, and how long should it be. I was just thinking that if it was too long...

    Leaded or Unleaded Fuel?

Hello. I have a '72 Evinrude 125 and have obtained the shop manual which says to use leaded fuel (underlined in manual to stress the point). I realize that was back before the ban, but would I be better off using lead additive? Also, is it ok to use octane boost in the fuel also for extra umph?

    '72 Evinrude 125 "Choke/T ermo-Switch"

Hello, I have a '72 Evinrude 125 and notice that, although I have the choke linkage ajusted correctly, when choking on a cold start, the solonoid (which I have changed out) dosent seem to quite pull the butterflies all of the way closed. It stops a little short so I actually have to manually...
