I put in a new water pump about 3 weeks ago. It ran okay and the cylinders were cool to the touch after serveral minutes. I changed to a new prop from a 13x19 to 13 3/8 x 17 to get out of the hole better to pull grandkids. This may not have caused the problem.
First day out ran great. Second...

I have a 1969 20hp Johnson. I installed an electric start motor on it.
Now the drive gear on the motor will not go all the way back down.
I took a screwdriver and held the gear down to keep the teeth from hitting when it was running.
I sprayed with WD40 and worked the drive gear on the motor...
I have a 1983 Mercury. When I hold the sparkplug and hit the start, I don't see or feel any spark.
Where do I start to test where the problem is. I looked under the flywheel but did not see anything unusual.
I see the two coils and looks like an electrical box with wires coming out but don't...
I followed the instructions at http://www.sschapterpsa.com/ramblings/Rebuilding_fuelpump.htm
But when I finished I cannot blow thru either of the spouts.
I rotated the outer gas imput 1/4 turn and I can blow thru both.
But can't get the right combination blow thru input but not back thru output.
I have a 1972 Evinrude when I spray WD-40 in the car, it starts but stopes in about 15-30 seconds.
I rebuilt the fuel pump. How do I test it. If I disconect from the car and the spray WD40 into the car, should I see a constant stream of gas coming out the disconnected hose?
There is presure...
