    Lean??

    1979-80 20hp Merc. Replaced switch box, plugs, charge coils, and carb rebuild. Starts good and runs good but still have a part throttle miss. Almost certain it is fuel related. Any ideas?? pls Thanks John

    DVA Testing

    20 hp merc 1979-81 serial #561#### Are the DVA test made with motor running or when being cranked, in this case "pull" start?? Thanks John12

    Part throttle miss

    20 Merc #561----, 1979-81 Part throttle it misses and revs go up and down. Any ideas, rebuilt carb but did not replace float needle, could this be a factor?? John12

    Got 1980 20 hp merc *561----- running after switch box/charging coil replace and carb rebuild and to the lake the last two days, ProbleM: Running at 1/4 throttle it misses pretty bad and at 1/2 throttle it will run fine then stop as if I pulled the kill switch, but then restarts on first pull...

    Runs great but erradic!

    20 hp merc #561---, Finally got her on the lake after all the work/problems. When running mid throttle it will rpm will go up and down and one time quit completely but started again on first pull. Fuel pump (it is a diaphram), I did replace all the pump gaskets but did not have a new diaphram...

    wATER IMPELLER INSTALLED

    79-881 merc 20hp #561---- replaced "wasted " impeller, water only comes out off propeler area at idle,. Is this where is suppoed to exit from, I awys thought it was from the port under rear of head. John12

    Impeller install

    Installing impeller in 20 hp merc 79-81,. Is the impeller so tight in the pump body it "bends" the vanes a whole lot? Also I assume the vanes are to be "bent" in direction of motor shaft rotation "duh". thanks John12

    Water Pump ??

    1978-81 20hp beg #561 Just got it running, using "muffs for water. No water, been sitting 2 yrs. ? Where is the water suppoed to be coming out off, some seems to be coming from the the propellar area? Also, have a new impella, do I have to remove the "plate"under the foot to get it off...

    Still No Start!

    1978-80 Merc 20 hp ser #561----- New charging coils/switch box/and rebuilt the carb. Sat for about 2 years. Got spark at plugs but only will "backfire once through the exhaust" and to get this I have to spray starter fluid into the cyclinder. Bad "trigger". DVA volt o.k. Help John12

    Pls Help ref Connections!

    Posted thread earlier but got no response. Does anyone know : Stator coils (2) have a "yellow" wire and white wire". Are these connected in "series" ? Do the white go to ground? I acquired te engine where it apparently has been worked on before. Any help, thanks. Have a Seloc manuel but...

    Coil ??

    20 hp merc. 1980 On the two "charging" coils under the flywheel which each have one yellow and one white wire, do either wire go to ground, if so which?? Thanks John12

    Still Poor Spark!

    20 HP 1980? 2 cyclinder. Replaced both coils (at the flywheel) and the switch box and still have a "faint" spark on both plugs and will not kick over/start. Could this be a bad "trigger switch"?? DVA volts at both coil less than 105 volts Thanks John Got to get this thing running this...
