'59 Texas Maid 14' Resto Project

Re: '59 Texas Maid 14' Resto Project Well, I took the Maid out this past weekend after doing a little motor work and the results were, shall we say, mixed at best. I replaced the old diaphram in the fuel pump tht was cracked and was definitely not pulling fuel to the carb like it should. I...

'59 Texas Maid 14' Resto Project

Re: '59 Texas Maid 14' Resto Project You gotta stay out of those hospitals, man. They're not much fun and they definitely cut into your boat budget. :D Anyway, I hope you're doing okay now. Thanks again for the kind words about my old tinny. She's getting there. Here's one more I took this...

'59 Texas Maid 14' Resto Project

Re: '59 Texas Maid 14' Resto Project Wet sanded and applied second coat. Pulled the tape. Not too bad. Need a few touch ups, but I think it turned out okay.

'59 Texas Maid 14' Resto Project

Re: '59 Texas Maid 14' Resto Project Well, I figured it was time for a few updates. The summers are pretty short here in Colorado, so I've been running the boat a lot lately and haven't had as much time to work on it as I would like. Regardless, I finally got around to applying some Gluvit and...

    Texas Maid or Lone Star???

Re: Texas Maid or Lone Star??? kfa4303, red paint will definitely add 20mph at WOT :D I don't know about racing stipes, though. The lakes up here in Colorado aren't near big enough to handle that kind of speed. Ha ha I couldn't agree more with your assessment re: "d-bag cruisers" and hot rods...

    Texas Maid or Lone Star???

Re: Texas Maid or Lone Star??? Love your Texas Maid. It does look more like the Falcon than the Osprey, but it's definitely one or the other. I have a '59 Osprey that I've been restoring (I had to put the project on hold for awhile due to going through the 'Big D' :(, but hope to get back to it...

Re: Drain plug for a 1964 Texas Maid? Not sure if these will help, but here are some pics of the drain plug the PO made for my 1959 Texas Maid Osprey.

'59 Texas Maid 14' Resto Project

Re: '59 Texas Maid 14' Resto Project Well, it's been a while since I've posted ... went through a divorce last year so I didn't have the time, energy, desire or the resources to do much with the restoration. Took her out once last summer and ran her for about 10 minutes before the wind got too...

'59 Texas Maid 14' Resto Project

Re: '59 Texas Maid 14' Resto Project I pulled the tape this morning and put the chrome side decals on. Looks much better, I think. Again, I still need to touch up a few spots. It's not perfect, but I learned a lot and should be able to do a better job on the next one.

'59 Texas Maid 14' Resto Project

Re: '59 Texas Maid 14' Resto Project After sanding with a higher grit sandpaper between each coat of white, I taped it off and applied two coats of black. It went on so much easier than the white, but it shows every little flaw. I started to sand the black with 400, but realized that it...

'59 Texas Maid 14' Resto Project

Re: '59 Texas Maid 14' Resto Project I had to sand down to the fiberglass in a few places. What should someone use to fill these spots on a fiberglass hood? I taped it off and primed it with Rustoleum self etching primer. I sanded it down and painted four coats of white (which I forgot to...

'59 Texas Maid 14' Resto Project

Re: '59 Texas Maid 14' Resto Project Okay, it's been a while since I've updated the resto project, but it's not from lack of effort. I've been working on repainting the cowling from my '59 E-rude Lark, and it's taken a lot longer than I had expected. The weather has not cooperated at all, and...

motor swap need help on steering conversion

Re: motor swap need help on steering conversion Here ya go ... This one is the clevis kit and the motor bracket. It's a little hard to see since I strapped the controls to the front of the motor to keep them out of the way. This one you can see the extreme angle I was talking about since I...

    Poll: Track Restoration Costs?

I was just wondering, as I was looking through my receipts this morning, whether anyone else is as anal retentive as I am when it comes to tracking the expenses associated with their boat restoration projects. I thought it would be interesting to find out how many of us really know, or even...

motor swap need help on steering conversion

Re: motor swap need help on steering conversion I recently fabricated the entire setup, because I wasn't going to spend as much on three little pieces of hardware than I did on the entire boat. I have a '59 Evinrude Lark 35hp that does not have a tilt tube, and the PO of the boat I bought (a...
