Should the pick up tube have a check valve. I have a 140gal tank on my aquasport and have a 225 evinrude outboard 1997 ocean pro. I just had a problem losing prime and solved the problem by changing the prime ball do you think adding a check valve at the pick up tube is a smart idea

I had trouble losing prime and had to pump ball to get back home. I had all filters changed and the check valve and fuel pump. I get the check engine light and horn sound after starting and idleing for a short time. What else can I check????
