Ok so I ran a compression test today with a borrowed gauge and it wasn't a screw in you had to hold a rubber boot in the plug hole. Also I dont know if it matters but it was also missing the glass. Anyway the results where 65psi on both cylinders on my 1985 40hp Johnson. This seems a little low...
Can someone point out where the high speed needle is so I can check to make sure they are not plugged while ive got it tore apart to replace the fuel lines.
OK the problem is the engine surges at WOT. No problems at idle or any other speed until I reach almost full throttle. Also it doesn't do it all the time. I have had the carbs cleaned and rebuilt gas tank fuel line and fuel filter have all been replaced. My next step is the fuel pump. It is...
I was browsing ebay the other day looking at parts and such and I found an auction for a set of carbs for my engine. The guy stated that the only difference in HP for these engines was the carbs. This just didn't make sense to me I thought there would be a displacement difference. But if this is...

It is a 1987 Ozark with a 1988 40hp...
I have a 2 cylinder 2 stroke 1988 40hp Johnson. I am thinking it should be 50:1 but not sure my dad whose boat this was before passing was told 80:1 buy a mechanic when he had to bypass the automatic oiler when it quit.
And does anybody know the gear ratio on this motor?
Also what would be...
