    1977 Evinrude 15hp pull start

Remove flywheel nut and get a 3 bolt puller to pop the flywheel off. Something underneath is hitting flywheel magnet and pulling the armature plate clockwise, which is causing throttle position to drop toward idle..

Johnny Rude Starter Housing - E or JE?

E is retracted mark for Evinrude, JE for Johnson. If correct, pawl will engage flywheel shortly after cord is pulled..

    Pulling flywheel 1990 3hp

Fouling spark plug, poor plug wire connection at coil or boot, dirty/pitted pointset (clean and reset both..), failing condenser etc. Good luck!

Yet, another Gale sovereign 40 question.

I would check seal integrity first.. squirt s bit of soapy water on top of sealing surface and pull it over (spark plugs out to make it easier to pull - won’t affect test). Upper crankcase under seal will have positive/negative alternating pressure trying to push/pull past sealing surface...

1977 Johnson 35 HP 35EL77H-Rectifier and starting battery recommendation?

If your outboard is electric start from the factory, it should have charge coil and rectifier built-in. Should be a wiring block on the side of powerhead. If so, check charging function. Hook up to battery and start it, then connect a voltmeter to your battery. Voltage should increase as RPMs...

    How to test VRO system

I had a 90hp VRO and tested as follows. Use a portable fuel tank mixed at 100/1, mark the current oil level in the VRO bottle and use it for a day. Avoid long wide open throttle runs for your test. If you used 3 gallons of fuel, oil level should have dropped by at least 4 oz. (Calculated at...

    1985 9.9 evinrude misfire

Did you pull intake manifold to check reeds? One leaf broken/blocked open will cause your issue and still start easily. Powerhead removal required, unless you can get to that bottom intake mounting bolt.. Leaky upper or lower crank seals could also cause issue, but rare on those motors.

Starter mounting bracket stud in front mount broken out casting

I assume your outboard has no recoil start. If you install one, the recoil’s front port side mounting bolt attaches to starter bracket, stabilizing the starter so it will function, and you’ll have recoil backup. Get a hood from a recoil start motor and off you go!

    90hp J90TSLEUA ignition switch

On twin cyl’s, the power pack has the main black ground wire and another black/yellow stripe that completes the kill circuit when ground is applied. Spark should stop with ground on that wire. If not, cd box lost that capability but will work fine otherwise. If grounding that wire kills...

    Johnson stops dead!

test spark immediatly when it quits. CD module may be faulty (or charge or pickup coil under flywheel.. those can be multimeter resistance tested.. if all spark is lost, all 3 can be the culprit). good luck!

    1993 Evinrude 9.9 - no spark

ignition module (cd box) failed on one cylinder.. fairly common. New box will fix it. Good troubleshooting!
