3 blade alum to 4 blade stainless

Please check my thinking... I have a 20' Sunbird Neptune cuddy with a 2000 Johnson 150 hp V6, the max rated for the boat. I currently have a 15" x 17P 3 blade alum prop which runs up to 5300 rpm, 40 mph (gps) with the boat full of fuel, 2 or 3 adults, and fishing gear. The WOT range for this...

    Best blade to cut fiberglass?

Here's how it turned out... 2 coats of epoxy on the plywood, then thickened epoxy on the fiberglass with a v notched spreader. Clamps, a couple of 5 gal buckets of water and 4 10lb barbell plates to weight it for a 24 hr cure. Was able to do it inside since epoxy does not stink you out of...

    Best blade to cut fiberglass?

Going with the 3/4", sealing edges and faces with epoxy. Thickened epoxy to bond the wood to the fiberglass panel. A layer of 6 oz cloth on the bottom and 4" fiberglass tape to tab all edges. Am I missing anything?

    Best blade to cut fiberglass?

The grinding is done! Used a belt sander with 36 grit for most of it. Not as fast as the angle grinder, but not as big of a dust cloud either. Finished with the 4 1/2" angle grinder with 50 grit disc. I decided to take off the ridge - fillet that was left after I took off the bottom fiberglass...

    Best blade to cut fiberglass?

I used the multi tool with a wood / drywall blade (because that's what I had). It made a nice thin cut and the best part was no dust cloud! The dust just collected along the cut. It did wear out the blade. The fiberglass came free of the rotted wood easily, stayed adhered to the dry...

I will be re coring the deck panel that covers my fuel tank. I am looking for recommendations for the best tool and blade to cut the fiberglass on the bottom side of the panel. It is a fat 1/8 inch or so at the deck plate holes. I have a multi-tool, reciprocating saw, jig saw, assorted hand...

Capacity sticker info needed, '96 Sunbird Neptune 202

I am going to have a new capacity sticker made for my boat and would like to verify the info. The one that is on it now says "8 persons or 1200 lbs. - 1200 lbs. persons, motor, gear - 150 HP motor". Should the "persons, motor, gear" rating be different (higher) than the "persons" rating? The...

    2000 Johnson 150 hp J150VXSSS, pros & cons?

I see the above advertised on craigslist and I am considering it to replace my 1996 130 hp V4. My boat is a '96 Sunbird Neptune 202 rated for 150 hp. I hope it will be smoother than my V4, plus the few extra ponies can't hurt. Any pros and cons about this series of motors? I know all the...

Questions re: Joe Reeves WOT Timing Procedure

The procedure says to rig a spark tester set to 7/16" gap, is this for all plug leads or just for #1 and the others grounded? The throttle set to full, in gear or with throttle cable disconnected at the engine? To disconnect / eliminate the Quick Start feature do I just unplug the white/black...

    1996 130 hp mid-range lean-out

I have a 1996 130 hp 90 degree V4 looper. It acts like it's running out of fuel when I try to run at 3600 - 3900 rpm. Below or above that range it runs fine, up to 6000 WOT. Opening it up from idle, it runs fine thru the mid range all the way to 6000, no shudder or power loss at all. It's...

1996 130 hp looper vs cross flows, opinions?

I've had 90 & 115 hp cross flows for years and think they are great dependable motors. I'm looking at a boat with a 1996 130 hp looper. How do the loopers compare to the crossflows? Is the 130 a big bore block? Large increase in fuel consumption? I'll be using it for fishing mainly...

Heat curing Rusto rattle can paint?

I will be repainting a prop and side mount engine control housing and handle with Rustoleum Pro rattle can paint. Will oven baking cure it well and faster than the weeks it took to really harden the last parts I painted with it? If yes, what temp and for how long?

New to me '68 Johnson 6hp, comments?

Found a CD-25C long shaft that looks very good at an estate sale. It's complete, clean, and appears well cared for. The skeg is scuffed a bit but the rest of the paint is good and it has no rust or corrosion on it anywhere. I could not pass it up but have not really checked it out. It turns...
