Just posting to update that the boster wire from the starter solenoid (I) terminal to the coil shorted and was drawing excess current from ignition wire. Isolated short and repaired loom. on to the next not running boat.
I recommend finding a different mechanic. One who charges you for for the work, not their research. Many of us charge a flat diagnostic fee and don't charge any more until the quote is approved and boat is repaired. Ask around your boating community for a reputable electrician. The marina by you...
My panel screws out on my Martinique 3600. Some models are held in by Christmas tree looking fasteners or spring clips. some rockers have to be individually wiggled out one by one. can the be reached from under dash? Different year make and models of boats used different instrument panels. yes...
I have had this with my Martinique. I had to pull the connectors off the switches one at a time and spray with contact or electrical motor cleaner and replace them back on the proper blade. Give them each a wiggle and see if they work intermittently. Most likey just a dirty connection.
Did you try without the battery charger connected? can you turn off individually each breaker to see if the reverse polarity light turns off. Did they plug in an electrical testing device into every GCFI outlet inside the boat to test polarity and or determine a bad GCFI outlet or a shorted...
It seems I have a lot of cleaning of contacts and connectors to go through in this 40 year old wire loom. The other engine has been converted to Mallory electronic ignition coil and pickup. one of the other mechanics has donated an old stock new in box distributor and coil with electronic pickup...
For many years if have boated the great lakes along with the Missippi and Illinois rivers day and night. If you are generally out on the water with little light pollution you can develop good night vision. Depending on how well you understand the waters around you and potential above and...
I am getting voltage to the R terminal during starting ( 10v) at the solenoid not the wire end to coil. I am going to have to open the loom by the connecter and see if i have a pinched or broken, or grounding coil wire next. my dwell meter stopped working yesterday too. (sitting too many years...
I am working on a 1979 harbormaster houseboat with 5.7 liter 255 hp inboards with v drive. (post engine swap using original Mallory type distributor with new points, coil and condenser.)
I can only start and run engine by jumping the +coil to the positive battery post.
At the key switch I have...
I currently detail about 20 boats each year. I currently use wizards nanotechnology cutting compound followed by wizards nano machine glaze and finish with a coat of wizards nano wax. The newest technology is the ceramic wax boasting a 1 to 3 year finish. Brands like reelshine Stark repel and...
does anyone know what coupler is used in acculift linear accuators. the rubber is torn to pieces and the steel blades are bent, this is in a chaparral 34ft boat with a 400 pound hatch. almost impossible to access without motor working. had to strap a 12 ft 2x8 to hatch and have 3 guys lift to...

I have a 1995 wellcraft Martinique. It has about 15% of the barrier coat peeled off from when I pressure washed the hull. It appears the boat was not sanded prior to barrier coat application. What is the best way to strip barrier coat ? sand blast, soda blast. dustless blast or chemical...
