Been a while since I've posted. Can probably thank all of the knowledge I've gained from the good people here for helping to make me self-sufficient. However, I've got an issue now that begs the insight of the iboats community.
My 1991 SeaRay 260ov with 7.4 Mercruiser 454 Mag, Quadrajet (I...
I should know the answer to this already but I'm so frustrated I want to poll the knowledge of all you other marine sparky's.
I installed a huge, elaborate, new new audio system a few years back. All overdone for the marine environment. Then ran the head unit remote power to the existing...
Just thought I'd share a few pics of my latest upgrade: 30' of waterproof LED's lightstrip epoxied to the underside of the upper flange of my aluminum I-Beam trailer.
Note: I feel that I should mention now that the camera added a "dramatic" effect to the glow and they are not as bright as...
So, I finally convinced my best friend to buy a boat; I lost a good deck hand and fuel compensator but gained a fellow boater on the lake. Anyway, he chose an older pontoon as his first craft which has a 1975 Evinrude 75hp outboard pushing it. Made sense given his boating requirements...
1991 Mercruiser 7.4 454 Mag / Corsa selectable thu-hull exhaust / Bravo 1
I took my boat out this past weekend for a final cruise to run some fuel stabilizer through it and fog the motor. However while in the process a brand new issue came to light. Here are the symptoms as follows...
My Sea Ray 260ov has these large diameter thru-hulls on either side of it. What strange about them is that there is no hose attached directly to the fitting and behind it is just an open space with stagnant water sitting about 1" below the opening. However the boat takes on no water. Check...
I put a new cap and rotor on my engine tonight for no other reason than I didn't know when it was last done. What caught my attention was that I could spin the rotor pretty effortlessly left or right about 1/4" (maybe less) before it stopped. There is no slop in the shaft, just able to...
I bought a new Hummingbird depthinder to replace my burned out Lowrance model. Got the transducer mounted, wiring plumbed, set the display in the existing hole... and watched it fall though. Damnit. Any suggestions on what to use for a nice looking bezel? The difference it hole sizes it...
Although I'm pretty sure this is one of those topics that has been brought up again and again; I cant recall seeing it and I'm curious about longevity. So here's the latest version:
- 730 hours since 1991, so 22 years. I bought it with 704 last summer. Mercruiser 7.4 Mag / Bravo 1
I've been spending alot of time down in my bilge lately running a bunch of new wiring. While working on the port side (filler hose runs here) I have noted a gasoline odor. It's not present on the starboard side or very far above the engine hatch. Is this acceptable? It's also worth noting...
Re: Stereo & Blue Seas ACR Install
Install subwoofers in box and remount in the boat. It was a super tight squeeze to get this big hulk back in.
Install vinyl wrapped top and seal off.
Speakers and amps are a work in progress. Meanwhile in the bilge.....
Install the ACR, fuses, amp...
I've been working for the last two weeks to upgrade my stereo and install an automatic charging relay. Lets take a look at the progress:
Here's the stereo equipment to be installed. (2) 10" JL Audio Marine Subwoofers, (4) JL Audio 6.5 Coaxial Component Speakers, 600 watt JL Audio Class D...
While installing some new stereo wires I came across a little electrical box for my Bennett trim tabs. The ground was un-plugged (whether by accident or intention I don't know) so it hadn't been functioning. Apparently it's a module that sets the trim tabs back to a neutral position every time...
Re: So before I burn my boat down.....
Here's where I'm at so far. The house battery wire is not yet hooked up to the switch but that's not where the issue is. It's the four 10 gauge wires that run to the switch (all are currently run to the same terminal). Does this seem correct? I guess...
