This engine WOT is usually at 3800. Recently I noticed the tach displays plus 500 rpm like 4300. Also when going down the river at say 1200 rpm all the sudden it will display 2000 rpm. Engine starts and runs fine. Wondering where to begin looking for this issue. 80 percent of the time the tach...
Ended up using gasket sealer on the bottom waterpump plate gasket. I think it was sucking exhaust and circulating it. This was suggested by the marina mechanic and it worked. He stated it can be hit or miss but has seen it many times when pump and tstat are good.
The fix for this was to get an extremely small prick and place it in the tip of each the male pins to gently expand the end of each pin. A guy at the marina suggested that and it worked. No more issue.
My plug set for engine helm has a bad connection. Engine dies when it gets moved around. Hove hose clamp on it.
Has anyone used the male female molex plugs that have 8 inch leads and crimp connectors?
I would like to try this instead of replacing entire boat/engine harness. Thanks
Going on vacation Wednesday. Ran engine today at1000 rpm on hose muffs temp fluctuates to 190 then down to 160 and back up.
Sea test today engine exhibits same symptoms. New exhaust flapper and impeller to weeks ago.
Thermostat is original.
It doesn't change if you are at idle or 3800 rpm on...
Its a Fisher 19ft Sport Avenger. I am going for a sea trial tonight to see how she runs. Been 7 years since she has been in the water. Then I will look into modifying the front black engine mount.
The mount is to high. It is adjusted as low as I can go. Its an aluminum boat. No wood. Mount sits on a SS saddle bracket the spans the two main aluminum stringers.
I can see that. Its the only move left. Ive had this boat since new in 2000. I dont know what has changed. Of coarse it may have been this way or worse since I bought it. Who knows. Mabe ge a used on from ebay and have my welder do that...Thanks for the reply.
Well I have the front mount as low as it will go. I got the gimble bearing moving on axis. The best I could get was spline marks all way around on tool except 3 on the bottom at 6 o'clock. You can't rotate tool with 2 fingers. You can move with one hand. I checked alignment at 12,3 6,and 9...
A mechanic at the marina said the gimbal bearing is stuck. He said to stick the alignment tool in so its in the bearing one inch and smack it down with a dead blow hammer so it can be easily rotated on its axis.
Does this make sense BT?
I removed mercruiser 3.0L motor and outdrive to have transom welded where it meets the bottom by drain plug.
Re installed motor and cannot get it aligned. I did not move the nuts on the front mount which is down all the way.
If I loosen the rear mount bolts I can almost get it right.
My question...
Thanks Bondo. I see the hole now. Thats from using a backhoe bucket to lift. Its a 1971 international. Not very smooth any more for this type of lift.
I will try looking up the parts and replace upper and lower. Soap em up and give it a try.
