1979 55 hp evinrude model# 55975......I seem to be having a difficult time trying to find correct piston and ring set (.30 over) for this motor. Chart seems to jump from 50hp to 60hp.....dont see 55hp???
I have a 1979 55hp evinrude that I suspect has a broken ring on the top cylinder. Is it possible to replace ring set with motor mounted to transom. Original shop manual on the way, just wanting a heads up as to what I am getting myself into.
I have little or no compression on top cylinder...assume broken ring. Am pretty well versed in basic mechanical problems, but this may be more than I can handle. Does this repair involve a lot of specials tools, or should I look for a used replacement motor? Cost is definatly an issue here.
