My bellows leaked and took out the gimbal bearing. The rubber has deteriorated enough where I can easily pull it apart. Seems like I just replaced them about 4 years ago. I used an aftermarket kit. Might not have been of a good enough quality.
This time, I am going to use oem parts, but I cant...
I believe I may need a new battery isolator. I have a dual group 27 setup with a 1,2,all battery switch. The alt is connected to a Guest battery isolator. The alternator and the alt side of the isolator read about 14.5V when running. The Batt1 of the isolator side reads about 14V and the Batt2...
I broke the + stud off my ignition coil when I was cleaning the terminals. Need a new one. The coil is a Diamond E-035 and says "Use with external resistor". This sounds like a points coils to me. The boat has no points. I don't get it.
I would like to get a new one today. Is the coil a marine...
I've removed my engine to repair a rusted oil pan. As I prepare to put the engine back in, I wonder to myself if the square nuts that adjust and support the rear engine mounts have moved. I was wondering if that can affect the engine alignment and how would I correct it. I've decided that the...
I am replacing a rusted oil pan. As I removed the old pan, I notice that there is some type of grey sealant (silicone?) used in conjunction with the pan gasket. My manual doesn't specify any other sealant. Do I need to use any other sealant? If so, what kind?
1999 5.7gs (pwtr)
I have a 1999 5.7GSPWTR that needs a new oil pan. I ordered an oil pan from another company that sells Basic Powerboat engine parts that was to fit a small block GM in the 1999 era. When I received it, everything looks correct except my old oil pan has what I would call an external dipstick...
I've had to remove the engine (5.7) to replace a rusted oil pan. How can I tell if the coupler is still good to use. It has about 800 hours on it. I have removed the couple from the flywheel and fitted it to the out drive shaft. It has a little play, but not too bad. The splines on the coupler...
I just installed an Xantrex XM1800 inverter. This inverter has a shore power cut-over when shore power is available.
Installation notes:
Boat - 1999 Chap Signature 240
Shore power is ran directly from the boats receptacle to the inverter.
The output of the inverter is connected to the wires...
1999 Volvo 5.7
Mando (I believe) alternator
My alt stopped working so I had it rebuilt. I haven't re-installed it yet. When I disconnected it, the wiring was as so:
- Large orange to the B terminal
- Purple (and 2 others) to the EXC terminal
- Large black to the E (ground) terminal
- Small...
I am in the process of aligning the engine. When I took the drive off I tested the alignment with the old gimbal bearing still in place. I could not get the bar to even think about going in the spline section. When I took the gimbal bearing out, I could get the alignment bar into the splines...
I can't find a part number (or diagram) for the drive shaft seal that is directly behind the gimbal bearing. Can someone point me in the right direction?
1999 VP SX-M
Kyle
Can't get it out. Tried the rotate it sideways technique. It rotated a little ways and then stopped hard. Would rotate the other way either.
Does this technique work on VP SX-M's? I don't have a slide hammer gear puller. (or any gear puller for that matter) When I stick my finger through the...
I've read about spun props quite a bit so I decided to put marks on both the inner and outer hubs. After using the boat for a day, I check the marks. They were no longer in the same relation to each other. The prop seemed to be just fine as it was running.
Is it possible that a prop can be kind...
