I have a 4cyl merc 65hp 74 and the plug wires have been taken off totally -how do I find out the correct order for them on the distributor cap.Is the first in the front -I am lost ...any suggestions?
I have a 74 65hp outboard merc with cd distributor, and wanted to know if the plug wire you see in the roll -at the marine parts shop is the correct type to use on my motor(they are both 7mm but my older wire looks thicker).I also had to buy/install new screw in tips to go on the...
if you turn over a motor a few times to see that it is not locked up and no fuel is getting to the motor after it has sat for many many months can that hurt the piton walls/rings?
What sort of damage can it do if you are running a older 4 cylinder on 3 cylinders(no choice-to get back to the dock safely)?
The 1st cyl read when running, and all 4 plugs in, only 60 the others around 120.But when all plugs out and turning motor over only 5 on 1st( the rest are ok).<br...
What usually can cause you to lose all the compression in top cylinder after just running on water ?
Can it be related to bearings going out/ or a pre existing knock noise from either the reed or not good lubrication through the tube to the crankshaft?
Its and older 4 cyl 85hp...
If your engine has a sound like a reed is open what kind of symptoms/noise would it give you?
And if your lower bearings sound -when running -like they were dry or had been dry what trouble could you have from it if you cought it in time?
Is it just a matter of time until a rebuild...
What exactly can disintegrate there around the rotor button and will it cause a weak spark?
And what symptoms does it cause as far as the motor goes?
Does it make any difference on the external fuel cannister/ seperator if your line goes in and out on the same side(my top has 4 connections+side plug-each side has in /out),or is it best to go 1 side in-(arrow) and the other side out-(arrow)?
And does the filter size matter ,I saw one...
fuel seperator cannister
Is it a good idea to use a fuel seperator /cannister on the older mid 70s merc outboards? And due away with the inline filters?
And would you keep it between the tank and the primer bulb.
Should you use the sea foam right after rebuilding the carbs/replacining all fuel lines or after you have run the motor for a while?
And can a slight difference in replacement fuel line size make a difference in how it runs?
Is it best to go with as short a fuel line as you can and to keep the primer bulb as close to the tank as possible? And what about those glass inline filters(which I am not fond of)?
What can happen if you go from a shorter old fuel line to a newer longer line ?
