I need some help on the proper orientation of the cogs mounted on the flywheel. The cogs engage the recoil mechanism when the starter rope is puled. Unfortunately I didn"t photograph them before I removed them.

    Water pump

I have a 1978 Mercury 500 that has a water issue. I replaced the whole water pump. The whole water pump. New upper and lower housing. All gaskets. New impeller. Checked and double checked my work but pump not working. I took off the lower unit and there is no evidence of water. I have the motor...

Thanks. I apparently was told incorrectly by a Mercury mechanic that carburetor #2 throttle should not start opening until 1800rpm if load idle is 800 RPM. Trying to achieve that was giving me headaches.

Carb linkage adjustment for 1976 Mercury 500 50hp with thunderbolt ignition.

I rebuilt the carburetors on this outboard. In doing so I noticed the connector that connects the two carbs together was broken. I ordered and installed a new one. Now I need to know the process of adjustment. The connector has a slot on the bottom that obviously is used to set a delay for the...
