So I spoke with my marine parts store and was told there's only 1 guy, that they know off that, has parts, can order parts or has my parts laying around. Just spoke with him and was told, those insulators were a very common problem with cracking. Also said they're discontinued and he has...
Also in the comments I've read, 2 different guys said if your point insulators even has a crack in them, they can cause either a full ground , or only a minimal spark to the coils..So I think I'll be purchasing a set of insulators also, as mine have a few cracks..
Been SUPER busy & still no manual. Purchased a spark "gap tester" yesterday, because I've been using a spark light tester. Anyway, only getting about an 1/8" of a spark...So tomorrow I'm going to try and set the points.
Only info I can find on the Thunderbolt egnition is, the high side of the...
Yes sir!
A friend just got this motor and it's leaking. We noticed the 0 ring had partially fell out. Was wounder how to replace it. Does he need to remove the motor to access the circlip? Thanks again!
I have a 1974 mercury 9.8 Thunderbolt egnition and I'm trying to set the points. When I turn the prop I'm getting none or hardly any gap at all. Do you use the high side of the lobe and line it up directly across from the point, or the part that touches the shaft. Any input would be greatly...
So I took the flywheel and stator cap back off, and while turning the prop my points are both staying closed! I'm guessing that's my problem.
Can anyone tell me how to set them.. Can't find a specific enough video on them, and still looking for a manual.
Is it the high side of the lob...
So we've had this engine for over 30 years and have always had problems starting it.. It was in the family. Lucky if it seen a few years on the water..Years ago it had the impeller replaced, then years later the carb rebuild. Now I have it back. The wiring was totally destroyed all the way up...
Hey guy's.
Finally got abit of time to work on the motor. I'm getting a really weak, and most of the time "no spark" on both plugs. When I purchased the new wiring, I made sure it was marine-grade from a marine parts store. Now after closer inspection, the old wire had about 40 strands where...
If I could find out the year, then I can purchase a manual and check specs. etc. and order in parts. I'm like 30 mins from Toronto Canada. Little hard finding any info in the city.
