Understood, thank you. I will leave the timing alone. Will go and remove from the freezer that "humble pie" that my wife made me ! She said I will probably need some ! I've learned 2 things lately from this forum...timing and carbs are preset from the factory so don't screw with them...
After I get this coil problem solved, I need to take a closer look at the timing settings on this motor. I'm thinking the misfiring issue sounds like a timing symptom. The plugs look good. If the coils check out(see previous posts), then this seems like the most likely cause. What do the more...
I have an issue with my motor. It runs rough and is difficult to get into drive but it DOES get up on plain sometimes but after a LOOONNNGGG and SLOW climb! I rebuilt the carbs, swapped out the reed valves and did my best at a "Link & Sync" but it still runs rough. I decided to check my coils...
My 70 horse Johnson is running rough...misfiring and difficult to stay running and get into drive gear. When it does go into gear it WILL get up on plain but it is a VERY slow and steady acceleration. I was thinking that I should check my coils so I pulled them off and checked them with my...
I pulled the entire reed valve assembly off my '73 65 horse...absolutely pristine!👍😁 I held them up to a light and there is NO light coming through and all the reeds are perfect! Waiting on new gaskets for the face plate and manifold.
I'm hoping that the reed valves on my 65 horse are in good condition and will pop right in. Very fortunate to have that motor to scavenge from! Mot everything is interchangeable but enough to make it worthwhile to keep!👍😁
I think the bottom valve is just limping along as well. Didn't have the suction of the top carb. It sucked...just not as hard. I'll change that one as well to be safe!
I watched a couple of videos on reed valves and WOW!!! Do I ever know nothing about how these engines work!!! The throttle plates are at the back of the carburetor and are controlled by the amount that the linkage opens them up which in turn is controlled by the WOT setting!
I watched a video...
When open up my throttle to WOT my reed valve are anywhere from (if you think of a clock) 1 o'clock 7 o'clock to 2 o'clock 8 o'clock. Since the roll pins are supposed to be at 12 and 6 at WOT ...where is the adjustment on these? Every video I have seen shows diagnosis and replacement but not...
70EL77S I went out and REALLY FOLLOWED to adjustment to the trolley linkage and yes I can see how I went wrong with my explanation. Air/timing adjustment for sure. Thank you! I will be picking up a manual for my motor! Cheers
