any similar boats to Carver 3607?

I really like the layout on the older (80's) Carver 3607 aft cabins. There are quite a few out there at reasonable prices for the working man. I like the centre line berth in the aft cabin, full size fridge in the galley, Crusader engines often found in them, gen sets, 2 heads, ample room, nice...

Transmission oil to cure engine oil consumption?

Almost afraid to ask but..... I mentioned to my mechanic my 3.7L was consuming some engine oil; not real bad about a quart every 5 hours or so. I assumed the rings weren't in the best shape. He advised to dump a quart of transmission oil in next time it was down. Good for valve seals, etc...

hard starting after tune-up kit and timing adjustment

Just got my boat back from the shop and wonder if timing is out. I brought the boat to the shop because the engine was cutting out temporarily or missing under load and I thought it was starving for fuel. It sort of behaved that way. It would bog down, catch up then cut out again. I could only...

upgrade from 3.7 to 4.3; same drive???

I'm doing my research for eventually swapping my 3.7 (470) to a freshly rebuilt 4.3 carburated from a local shop. I thought I would have to change the drive as well because of different gear ratios. The shop owner tells me no, the 4.3 bolts right up to the same drive (see my signature for s/n...

    470 Overheating?

Re: 470 Overheating? Thanks for the tip. I've had the front cover off the heat exchanger before (to winterize). Isn't that a water "outlet" on the exhaust elbow? If I run water through a garden hose in there, I should see water coming out the front end cap, right (ie. reverse of normal flow)...

    470 Overheating?

I purchased my boat (22' 1990 IMP Sportsman with 470) late last season and soon began worrying about the operating temperature as the gauge seemed to creep up pretty high. The engine was rebuilt just prior to me purchasing the boat and it really runs nice. I soon found out the 470 is notorious...

OMC Type C gear oil necessary?

I inherited a 1973 Johnson 9.5 and want to change the gear case oil before the season. There is a sticker on the motor that states "Use OMC Type C gear oil". I've read this type of oil is necessary for electric shift models but is this oil necessary on this little fella? I wasn't able to find...

    Raymarine RC530 chartplotter GPS wiring

I just got a used RC530 chartplotter with a Raystar 120 GPS antenna. I'm trying to figure out the wiring. I found all the related manuals on-line. I am missing the W144 power cable (7 leads: +,-, shield, and 4 NMEA). I can buy this on line for about $60. I also have a few 3 prong SeaTalk cables...

Can anyone tell me what this is?

Removed my outdrive (Alpha One Gen 1 s/n:OC786227) and found this just laying there. It's a half moon shaped piece of metal that appears to be encased in rubber. Exhaust flapper? http://s1155.photobucket.com/albums/p553/luckylukebernard/boat/?action=view&current=PA210202.jpg...

    470 Oil Capacity

Have a 470 Mercruiser (s/n: A452410). I bought the boat in August and changed the oil and filter as part of winterization. Looking up capacities in the manual it appears the engine takes 5L. I siphoned out the oil, installed new filter and added 5 L. Checked the oil, appears low (just under...

why two wires from temp sender on 470?

I have a 470 mercruiser s/n: C658976 and want to change the temperature sender and gauge. There is only one terminal on the sender so that leads me to believe the sender uses the block as ground (non-floating). There are two wires connected to the sender terminal. I assume one goes to the gauge...
