Found the pickup in the fuel tank was clogged. Moved the hose off the pickup on the main tank to a portable 6 gallon tank and jumped the low pressure pump on the motor and looked at the output going into a catch can. Comes out clean and smooth unlike when I tested the output before when it was...
Also I powered the boat on the trailer without an issue, went to drain the VST and nothing came out. Upon disassembly there was maybe 6-10 drops of fuel in the bottom of the VST tank. More of a reason I'm suspecting the low pressure pump.
Little background on the motor. Sorry it's a long post.
Purchased it as a demo motor in 2019 with 7 hours on it. Did nothing but oil/filter, fuel/water separators, spark plugs, and water pump. Have 97 hours on it. Motor is out of warranty now. In 2021 I installed a yamaha fuel management...
Guess I'll start doing some weight testing in the water with the hull and see if I can get 9.9's/15's on it. I'm fine with any brand except mercury. Never had good luck with them. Seems the honda 8hp is really light for a 4 stroke (72 lbs). There just isn't any small Hondas in my region for sale.
I've looked into going electric. That was the first idea. Electric won't give me the speed I want or range even with solar panels. I'm hoping for a cruise of 10-13 mph and top end of 15-18 mph. I could achieve everything with a single outboard(I do have a 25hp yamaha im not doing anything with)...
I'm starting a project soon on converting a 18' Hobie Cat sailboat into an outboard powered bayou cruiser. Looking to run twin outboards on it. Need to keep the weight down so I'm limited to around 40-70 lbs per motor. My research is showing that the 6, 7.5 and 8 HP Johnson/evinrude from the...
I'm wondering if there's still a manufacturer that's still making the trim tab trolling motors (minn kota obsolete, lenco obsolete). I'm starting a project of converting a 18' Hobie Cat sailboat into a solar powered twin electric trolling motor bayou cruiser. I remember seeing the lenco trolln'...
My friend has one of those 30+ foot twin engine tritoons with twin 400 mercury verados. It's a speed demon rides pretty good too in a bay chop. Wanna say he paid 250-275k for it. Way out my price range though lol.
I like the pontoon style house boats but not enough freeboard and most have just a single engine. Not good for getting back to my house which is on a long narrow curvey bayou. Definitely need twins. My neighbor struggles to get his 34 manship back there.
My mistake on the size range. I meant 40-50 foot range. I'm well aware of the fuel burn of the big block gassers. My Bertram has twin 454 carbed mercruisers. At 21 knots with the wellcraft in tow and generator running I'm burning 40 GPH combined. I'm only running 1-2 hours out each trip so the...
Interests are changing and I'm not using either one of my offshore boats for their intended purposes anymore. I do alot of 2-3 day inshore fishing trips and duck hunting in protected mostly shallow water. I've been using my 33 Bertram as base camp and to tow my wellcraft v20 for fishing and my...
I've had this boat for about 2 years now. Purchased non-running with 32 hours on the hull. Is currently equipped with twin 225 hp volvo 4.3 MPI I/O jack shafts. Long story short I had one bad engine that we replaced. While sitting in storage due to no time to work on it the drain plugs clogged...
Recently picked up a great deal on a 1984 11 ft boston whaler super sport. Came with a 20 hp mariner that's junk. Test ran the boat last weekend with my 1989 evinrude 15 hp. With 2 full sized adults and me(fat azz) it wouldn't plane. Just plowed threw the water at 9 mph. With just me and 1 other...
Just picked up a 2001 baha king cat 270 walkaround with twin volvo I/O's. The I/O's will need a ton of work to be functional. Looking at putting some outboards on the back. I've seen that all the king cat I/O's that are out there have been converted to outboards. Transom is rock solid and the...
I am currently looking at purchasing a new offshore boat and a very unique catamaran caught my eye. this is a boat built in 2004 with plans purchased from a company who builds these boats. the boat is 34x12 and is made of aluminum. the hull bottom is 3/16, the sides and cabin 1/8, and the rest...
