Im changing over my transom assembly(alpha one gen one), the good one im putting on doesnt have the mercathode part on the bottom of the outdrive. The one I took off has it but it is cracked. Should I just buy the new piece and put it on or not really needed? Boat is slipped in brackish water...

I have a mecruiser alpha one gen one outdrive. Is it ok to tighten the two bolts at the top of the gimbal ring to get rid of slop at the steering shaft? My mercruiser book says dont tighten these bolts to get rid of the slop, and a local boat mechanic says its ok. any ideas? thanks
I have a 1990 mercruiser alpha one gen one i'm replacing the transom assembly on. My question is does the transom seal need any sealer, against the hull or between the seal and transom assembly? or just clean and dry? Thanks
