This engine is like a woman!

    Engine: '82 70HP Merc T/bolt ign.

I've tried sorting my engine over the w/end which suffers a re-occurring problem, Fuel starvation
I removed the entire fuel line from the tank to the fuel pump and replaced it with continous pipe to hopefully eliminate air leaks and started the...

I have a 16ft speed boat with a 70HP, 3 cyl, '82 Merc (total 1400lbs), say two people on board (360lbs)and 25ltr (6gal) of fuel what do you think my possible range could be.
Trying to work out the available fishing spots

Cheers

Mark

    Its still chugging

    Afternoon/morning guys.

Quick question. I’ve been trying to get my ’82 70HP engine to work properly but I’m struggling. Should the inline fuel filter fill up completely, its just that I’ve noticed that mine seems to contain a thimble full and when I open the throttle up she bogs down...

    Fuel pump kit??

    Hi

I plan on re-building my fuel pump for my 70hp Merc, I-3, S/N 9341608 (Belgium), 1982.
The problem: I can't decide on which kit to purchase as there are 3 for a 70hp engine! The suppliers are as useful as a chocolate fire guard!
The catalogue says (the 1st number indicate...

    Engine tuning

Maybe a daft question but how difficult is it to extract more power from an engine? The one in Qs is a Merc 70HP early 80's with Thunderbolt ignition

Mark

    Stuck if fwd gear

Last weekend I replaced my impellor and fitted the lower unit to the mid section. Fired her up, she ran sweetly, but it isn't in neutral even though I left it there.
I check with the manual and thought the lower shift shaft was properly aligned! So I thought! :(
Looking from the...

    Speedometer Pitot tube

    Engine: Merc '83, 3 cyl.

This might sound daft, but the thing is bugging me. My Clymer book says the speedo pitot tube is next to the gear selector rod. But on inspection there is a plastic nut fixed into the lower unit and then the pitot tube is slid over the nipple of the plastic...

    Rev counter

I was looking at the electrics on my re-counter for my 1983 70HP, 3 cylinder Merc engine. And I noticed that it has an adjustable dial on the back to select the number of cylinders, it was pointing at 4 cylinders. Does this screw up the rpm reading?
Cheers

    Loss of power when hot

I was recently given a small 16ft boat, 70HP Mercury and trailer package not bad hey. The catch is that the engine isn’t fully functional and requires some TLC and a large hammer! My friends Dad (the previous owner) told me that the engine runs fine until it gets hot, at this point the revs...
