    2001 9.9 2-stroke - water in gear oil

Excellent idea, thank you I will do this! I definitely have the lube pump. Crossing my fingers it's under the water pump, I really don't feel like disassembling the gearcase. :)

    2001 9.9 2-stroke - water in gear oil

My goal is to determine if I need to buy the bearing carrier removal tool and disassemble the gearcase or not. i.e. is the leak most likely under the water pump, or the prop shaft? I'm hoping to hear from someone familiar with this motor who can comment on common failure modes. Local shops...

    Is 40 lbs pressure enough?

It depends on the motor and how much water your hose flows. My Honda 50 has the same inlet under the antiventilation plate, water pours out there when the muffs are on it but it pumps water fine. I've been flushing it with muffs, without covering that inlet, for 26 years (bought it new in...

Tohatsu MFS 60 reset oil light

Write notes for yourself, or take a little phone video and put it on youtube for yourself. 100 hours from now you'll probably be trying to remember what you did. ;)

    Tohatsu M18d charging output

Chat GPT says the standard M18D has no electrical output at all, but the M18E2 is good for 80 watts, or 7 Amps. As mentioned above, this spec is most likely at a pretty high RPM, close to idle I wouldn't expect much at all.

    Is this propped up enough

I would think it's less about how much it's propped up, and more about how much pressure is on the pin. Either play with the hydraulic tilt to remove pressure, or open the manual release valve on the hydraulic tilt to relieve the pressure on the pin.

    Bearing carrier tool for 2001 9.9 2-stroke

Can anyone tell me the Mercury part number, or point me to an aftermarket, lower unit bearing carrier removal tool that fits a 2001 9.9 2-stroke? None of the local shops want to work on a motor this old so it's up to me. :).

    tale tail

First stick some weed whacker string up the hole to make sure it's not clogged. Critters will sometimes build homes in there. If that's not it, then disassemble and check the pump, especially if it hasn't had a new one in recent memory. The impellers are rubber, the rubber will get stiff and...

    Is 40 lbs pressure enough?

The hose isn't giving you enough volume of water.

Honda BF40A Sn BAYL 2000515 will not idle smooth

Soaking in solvent rarely does anything for a clogged carburetor, just sitting there the cleaner can't get to the goo inside the tiny passages. You have to spray cleaner and air through the passages to blow them out. Also a clogged main jet will not cause a leak. A stuck float or a leaky...

Honda BF40A Sn BAYL 2000515 will not idle smooth

I have the 50HP version of that motor, bought it new in 99'. Take the carbs apart. If you've got the EPA fuel screws that can only turn 1/8 turn, break off the heads, use an extractor to take them out and replace them with proper adjustable screws. The part numbers are on here somewhere...

    Winterize Tohatsu 50hp 4-stroke on boatport . . .

I'm south of you (Palm Beach Gardens) and can't remember the last time I saw frost here. We had some light frost on the grass back in the late 80's/early 90's, but I don't remember any since then. I've never seen anything freeze damaged here. It's interesting that you see it where you are, I...

NS18C2 cuts out at full throttle

Double check the main jet and the emulsion tube if it has one (tube with a bunch of small holes in it). The symptom sounds like it's possibly not getting enough fuel with the throttle open, so I would check everything related to the main jet. Also check the float level and make sure the fuel...
