Having trouble removing the shift lever on my NS3.5b2 Nissan outboard. Lever seems to be stuck in housing pretty good. I can't even rotate the lever into forward. The only connection point I see is the cam that holds the shift rod that goes down to the lower unit. Am I missing something?

I was pumping gear oil into my 3.5hp Nissan and the oil started to come out the flange above the lower gear housing.
Does this mean I have an oil seal leak or is the pressure of the oil pump too much for the seals to handle? I was using a hand oil pump.
Also how do I unclog the upper oil vent...
