I was wondering if I buy an older outboard, specifically johnson/mercury, in the 70s, would parts be readily available from Mercury dealers, or is it now the point where you are hunting for vintage parts? Regards, Mike

    Outdrive Side-to-side slop

I have noticed near the end of the season that compared to my friends Bravo drives on his boat, my Alpha 1 has a fair bit of side to side slop on my rinker. What generally causes this? is it the steering arm that goes through the transom plate inside the boat generally? or is it a bushing on the...

Outdrive loose, outdrive won't come off

We've loosened all 6 bolts, removed the trim cylinders, and put the outdrive down (straight), put the gearshift in Forward, and the outdrive will not slide anymore than 1/2 off. It's acting like the driveshaft is holding it back. Any suggestions?

Prop Drive, and then Jet Drive.

So, I got to thinking. Why don't they use jet-drive systems more than they use Prop drive systems in the I/O applications? Is it because their not as reliable? I should think in this day and age they can make a heck of a solid system. And also, they are a much better system as far as propulsion.
