Have a 75 mercury 402 40 hp. New cables, but throttle cable not working right. Flexing at control box. Could it be the boss not in slot on shifter side. Shift cable works. Any place online with step by step instructions for doing it right.

Motor seems to run on one cylinder and every so often catches on both, could it be because of wires, they are carbon core? All electrical componants seem fine. Any and all ideas will be checked out to try to get the old twain running good again.:$
Have a problem with my motor. Idles great but can not get enough power to plane boat(16' low alum.) and uses fuel like crazy even though it's only hitting on one cylinder(it kicks in once and a while). Got good spark to both plugs so I'm at a loss for the problem.
