    How to test for lean condition at WOT?

    I think my #1 cylinder maybe running lean at WOT. NO problems yet, runs very strong, it is a 95' 88spl evinrude. The plugs are 2,3,4 black and oily wet. #1 is mostly dry with little deposit. The electrode is white but the core is tan. How do I test for lean condition at WOT?

    ticking noise

    I have a 88hp 95 evinrude that I've had for about a month. Runs great! Question is at 4000-5200rpms there is a ticking noise coming from the motor that is constant. The faster I go it increases with rpm, but not in noise just speed. Is this normal?

    I took my 88hp 95 evinrude out today and the tach held a good mark on acceleration, but when I leveled off the tach would jump all over. The motor ran smooth no, miss or spits. Bad connection or new tach or is there something more serious? Also changed spark plugs due to #1 cylinder plug...

    How much damage?

    I purchased a boat recently with a 95 88hp Evinrude. The compression was good at 120s, but I have one spark plug white and powdery. I'm having the carbs rebuild due to a lean condition on that one cylinder, no time to do it myself. My question is I don't know how long this condition went on...

    Spark plug?

    I just purchase a boat with a 88hp 95 Evinrude. Very strong motor,, but on thing I noticed was that 3 of the 4 spark plugs was wet and the one on the starboard top was white and dry. Should this plug be a little wet too? Is it a matter of adjusting the mixture at the carb for that cylinder...

    Lanyard kill switch?

    When doing a compression test if you engage the lanyard can you stil crank the engine over with the key or do you have to jump the starter???

    Does year make a difference?

    I asked a question about compression for 94 88hp evinrude. The reply was over 100psi, but more importantly there is not more than 5-10% difference between cylinders. Does same apply for a 95? Had FICHT taken over yet?

    Hello all,<br />I am interested in purchasing a boat with a 1994 Evinrude 88hp outboard motor. I would like to know what the compression should be and is it a 3 or 4 cylinder engine? If I do purchase the boat I will be buying a service manual right away. Thanks for you help!
