Had this chip on the bottom of my boat about 15 years ago. Assumed it was just gelcoat but every trip it would blowoff. Thought nothing about it but this year I was like lets see why nothing will stick. Well I grounded it all out and realized it was a small hole. Dont know where it goes into...
Um, total we had a catastrophic failure on out 1990 Alpha 1. Driving at 2500rpms and BOOM dead motor and came to a standstill. Motor woukd not turn over. Felt like we hit a sub merged log. Wouldnt crank over.. Got towed 3 miles back and I could smell random gearlube. Got back, towed home...
Im wondering if I should pull the risers and see if I got all 4 slots open like the merc bullitin. If I do that Im half temped to go back to the restricted.. Keep it at 900-1000 rpms, zero issues

Bringing this back up. Replaced thermostat with OEM Merc along with plastic spacer and I have identical results. Again, over 1000rpms. PERFECT cooling. Trolling or idling around the river itll drop to below 100 like its over cooling. I have the non restrictive manifold gaskets with 2 hose...

When ingrt home from my trip ,I'm going to pull it apart and see what's up.
I thought about this a few years ago when I had one leak into the motor over winter. Pulled my plugs to check before starting up and antifreeze was on all the plugs on the port side and in the oil. Pulled riser and there was a puddle in there. I cant remember what I used. Should prob pull them...
