Stop Leak Additive for Power Tilt and Trim?

F115 Yamaha. I believe the leak is caused by one of the several o-rings sandwiched between the gear pump assembly and the trim housing. It's not leaking from any of the rams. Has anyone ever successfully fixed a leak using a product like Lucas hydraulic oil booster & stop leak or any of the...

    Leaking trim/tilt pump F115TLRD

So, departing from my normal proclivity for paying a relatively small amount of cash for an older boat (or pop-up or RV), then spending a lot of time restoring and fixing them, I decided to get a newer boat (2005) and finance it, thinking that I would have more time on the water and less time...

Speedi-sleeve for drive shaft seals, 2005 Yamaha F115TLRD

Saw some oil on the cavitation plate. Hmmm. That's unusual. So, I removed the lower drain plug and, yep, milky gear lube. Took it apart and found this rough looking drive shaft seal surface. Does anyone know if there is a Speedi-sleeve made for this application? Thanks.

    2005 Yamaha F115TLRD gauge/alarm questions

My new (used) Triumph 190 Bay has a Faria tachometer that is inoperative, a speedometer that is disconnected, and a fuel gauge that works. The prior owner wasn't aware of any over-temp or low oil pressure alarms on the motor or indicators in the instruments. I would like to monitor more...

2004 Yamaha F115TLRD: no hour meter

Is there a way to check the hours of an engine in a boat that does not have an hour meter? In other words, could the hours be stored on some chip inside the motor? Thanks

1994 Century 2180 center console with Yamaha 115 hp

I live near Pensacola. I've been window shopping used bay boats for a year or two now. I found this 1994 Century 2180 down the road from my house. It is just like the one in the link I provided, but it is in pretty rough shape. Looks like it's been sitting out in the sun for a couple of...

My 470 loves to go fast, hates to idle

I start the engine on muffs, set the throttle to about 1500 rpm to let it warm up, then jump out of the boat to attend to other things, only to jump back into the boat because the rpm are increasing to an uncomfortable level...OR...I set the throttle to about 1500 rpm, jump out to do stuff, then...

    Excessive play in steering cable?

I know this is probably excessive play, and am I correct in assuming a brand new cable/steering gear will be a lot tighter? Do I need the complete kit or just the cable? This is for a 1987 470 Mercruiser Alpha 1 stern drive in a 17' boat. Not really sure what/how to order, other than watching...

New gauges and some beautiful mahogany (tutorial)

I recently replaced my old, ugly gauges and dashboard with NOS medallion gauges and mahogany wood. What a difference it makes. The steps to making the mahogany very glossy, after achieving the right shape, are to finish sand, fill the grain, sand again, spray a coat of conversion varnish...

Installed new gauges, cleaned up some terminals, now no spark

I picked up a set of NOS Medallion gauges that were meant for a 1990 Four Winns with a Mercruiser sterndrive. Since my boat is a 1987 Four Winns with a Mercruiser 3.7L and Medallion gauges, I figured the switch over should be pretty easy. I labeled every wire as I disconnected them from the old...

    Charging system questions

I've been worried that my battery wasn't being charged lately because my voltmeter only shows 12 volts all the time, except when I turn on the blower or bilge pump, then it dips. I've got 14.6 volts at the battery terminals. Was wondering if my voltmeter was inaccurate, so I ran a wire from...

    Almost shifts perfectly

Greetings all. Haven't been out on the boat in a year because the aftermarket u-joint bellows split last June, and well, it's been a busy year. I replaced my old Alpha one drive with a new SEI 106 and have been breaking it in (I hate not being able to go fast!). Also replaced the aftermarket...

    Allowable upper shift lever play

I'm reassembling my bell housing today, tomorrow, over the weekend...depending on how it goes. The upper shift lever is pretty new. I replaced it a couple years ago when I rebuilt the bell housing for the first time (I'm having to redo it because I used Mallory bellows and Sierra trim senders...

470 Teardown - hat's wrong with this picture?

To rebuild or not to rebuild (gimbal ring)

After learning my lesson on using Sierra and Mallory aftermarket parts and missing out on an entire year of boating, I've got all new Quicksilver parts to redo the bell housing. The Mallory U-joint bellows and exhaust bellows failed withing a year, as well as the Sierra trim limit and sender...
