    If you put regular lower gear oil and not type c gear oil would that cause it not to shift the right way.

    I have a 1969 55hp Johnson with hydro electric shift but it will not leave nuetral i was wondering why it will not shift and i already found the blue and green wire and they are still getting power like they should i already checked that.     The motor will run fine in a bucket W/O the prop on the the shaft but when is on the motor will not stay running i need some help thanks.

    1969 johnson 55hp outboard not getting gas

    The motor will start and idle for a min but if you give it any gas it stalls out. I have redone all of the gas lines. Model # 55esl69a

    all the wires going to motor are in pretty bad shape insulation falling off of them and some bare wire showing. sometimes get spark but sometimes don't was wondering if the wiring would have something to do with it? Also when i changed the lower gear oil there was water in the oil and the boat...

    1969 johnson outboard motor wont go into neutral or reverse

    I got a 1969 55hp johnson outboard motor hydro electric drive but it will not come out of foward. Can not get it into neutral or reverse. was wonderin what i should do and what would cause it to happen foward works fine. thanks
