Best prop for Mako 17 w/88hp Ruder?

The boat came with a 13 1/4 x 17 prop and we only could get 3800 rpm with sluggish performance. We have borrowed another of unknown dimensions that yields better performance and 4300 rpm. Does anyone know a good prop for that boat with moderate load? What rpm should we be able to hit with our...

95 Johnson 200 OP uses excessive oil, smokes

It seems to use a gallon of oil for 32-35 gallons of gas. Good running otherwise, no overheating, good charging, etc. Using synthetic oil per suggestions, fuel is fresh and good, no water. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

1988 88hp Rude fuel delivery issue

Engine starts and runs well at low speeds, but when the coals are put to it, it will not run above 3500 rpm. If choked, it runs well, and up to 5k. Fuel bulb (new) stays firm, and squeezing when engine is starving has no effect. Any ideas appreciated.

    New prop for Mako 17?

We have a 1983 Mako 17 with a 1988 88hp Rude and a 13x17 prop. Boat is new to us. The top end is about right, but we're looking for some more acceleration for water sports, etc. We would willingly give up some top end for acceleration. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, -Nick

1987 88hp Rude slowly tilts up by itself at rest

Could this be the tilt switch itself? (dash mounted) The "up" relay? Something else? Poltergeists? Thanks in advance guys, -Nick

1987 Evinrude 88hp surges about 4-500 rpm at high speed

When running at 4000 rpm, the engine intermittantly surges around 4-500 rpm, returning to 4000 after a few seconds. Also, the fuel bulb does not firm up when pumped before starting, don't know if it's related. Running pre-mix (no VRO) 89 octane, fresh gas, starts well, good compression, normal...

'95 Johnson 200 Ocean Runner a little "off"

Needs much choking to start, 12 pushes on the key, but not lean when running. A little rough at lower speeds. It sonnds like it has a slight miss at high speeds. Compression is pretty good, recent de-carb, low hours overall. One mechanic says he would rebuild the carbs for around $400.00, and...

Some gas in exhaust, an intermittant miss

'95 Johnson 200hp Ocean Runner running not quite right, feels like 5 3/4 cyls. Good compression, recent de-carb, fresh fuel, good OMC oil. Any ideas?
Thanks,
-Nick

    Compression advice?

I have a '95 200 Johnson Ocean Runner with compression of 100, 100, 100, 100, 97, 99. The motor has a very slight miss (feels like 5 3/4 cylinders) but how is this compression? Did it start out at 100?
Thanks for any assistance.
-Nick

    1995 Johnson 200 longevity?

I have one of these that is starting to run a little rough, nothing too serious yet. 2 different mechanics with no axe to gring told me that they rebuild a lot of these vintage motors, more than older ones or later ones. The motor has been well cared for, and the last thing I was planning on is...

Miss in '95 200 Johnson Ocean Runner

Mechanic taking cursory look has not found cause, and says he has to rebuild many OMC engines of this vintage. The miss is most noticable at idle, but is there the whole time. It seems like it's running on 5 3/4 cylinders. The motor has been well cared for and has approx. 600 hours on it. Thanks...
